Tom Callahan: Reviews

End Of The Rainbow: Shannon Pub

a traditional Irish band

they launch into an old standard where the crowd yells out ‘Mcintyre!’ every couple of seconds. This is what Irish pubs are all about: friendliness.

The bands name is Tom Callahan and Iad Fein, and they’re phenomenal

The lead singer/guitarist,

looks so Irish that potatoes and leprechauns could follow . . .

Tom Callahan’s vibrant tenor rails
against injustice past (The Eleventh Hour) and present (The Streets of New
Orleans). . . .Whether it’s guitar, banjo,
whistle, mandolin, keyboard, or bodhran, the instrumentation supports and
never masks the melodies and harmonies.

I did listen to the CD (Iad Fein recording) I bought that night, and I want
to single out to you, my compliments on The Eleventh Hour, and The Street of
New Orleans. They are two of the finest "new" pieces I've heard in a long,
long, time. In fact, I consider them both to be of "anthem" stature. I'm
glad I was able to hear The Eleventh Hour, in person, before I had to leave
on the 14th. I certainly look forward to your new CD.

On Friday I attended the debut of ballad singer Tom Callahan at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle and what a fantastic job he did. Tom has a fabulous repertoire and a fabulous voice. Next time he's here go see him, you'll be elated!

[While] recently at the Shannon Pub....[I] became re-acquainted with veteran singer-composer Tom Callahan. ... If you have never heard this fellow perform, you're missing out on a real talent, whose rich and powerful voice is accompanied by several of the instruments he plays... Still, it is his Irish music he is best known for, and that's what fills his new IRISH AMERICAN [CD]. [His CD is] filled with not only a number of traditional Irish favorites, but also several of his own compositions with what Tom refers to as a "Celtic Twist." [His new CD], IRISH AMERICAN ... aptly describes the music, as well as the man whose singing and writing is behind it.
